Kids"R"Us

Technology can be great when it is working. I love that I can stay connected with family and friends who uses the same technology like e-mail, facebook, and photo sharing. But with all this technology I think you need to be careful with who sees what is said or photos. I also like that we can share or get ideas from people all over the world for programs that we would like to do here at the Library. I feel that if used properly we can get some great ideas that we ourselves may not have thought of trying. Technology is also a great way for us to stay connected with the younger generation.

In honor of my son Lucas I picked a Sonic the Hedgehog as the video I picked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNwTVbLsBik&feature=PlayList&p=392C6EEB96AC06C6&index=0 He is a huge Sonic fan. There are a lot of fun videos to watch, on your own time. As a parent would monitor what my kids watch, because any one can put up a video. The Library could make videos of how to research or like the videos we have watched in this class for other topics. Maybe we could even get our Teens involved in making some movies of things we do at the library, or just fun videos.

I liked looking around Flicker. I saw some very beautiful pictures. The picture that I am posting is of a waterfall in North Island of New Zealand. I was unable to get the picture to post, even thought it said it was done.

I am actually going to see if I can get my family to all get accounts so that privately we can share pictures of our kids. I know that I don't want my kids pictures pasted all around the web so it would have to be a private. If I took pictures of nature or historical sites I wouldn't mind sharing with the world. I also thought the example of having all your pictures on the web in case of a fire was a valid point. I never really thought about that. I have all of my pictures saved to an external hard drive, so this is something for me to discuss with my husband.

This was very interesting. When I heard Wiki I think of Wikipedia. I like Wikipedia for helping get started on a subject, but I don't like that people think this is a creditable source. As all of the sites I looked at it said anyone can edit. That said I did like the the Open World Cat. I typed in a title and clicked on the book. I was able to see which library's had it, how many miles it was, reviews, prices and where I could buy. That was a northern Library system by Libertyville.
Applications that we could use Wiki for at the Library would be for Readers Advisory, Book Clubs, and I really liked the Open World Cat from the Northern Library Area. If we wanted to discuss programs that we would like this may be a good way between both buildings.

To be completely honest I was overwhelmed. Then I had to figure out that you needed to click on the blue link to actually get into see the blog. I kept clicking on the title or picture of blog. Once I figured that out things were easier. I tried to look for library related items so I tried popular books, but they are working on something so I could not access that area. I did see some intresting things, but it is a very time consuming thing to find what you actually want. It could just be my inexperience.

I finally sat down to put this blog together. Now I just need to make some changes to the appearance like my co- worker showed me and I will be set.
